Alfred Theodore Kjeldson
Alfred Theodore Kjeldson was born April 1, 1917 and passed away June 24, 2010.
Al was born on a homestead four miles outside of Effie, Minn., to Hulda and Albert Kjeldson. He graduated from Big Fork High School, Minnesota, in 1935. During the summer of 1936, he learned carpentry while working with a neighbor to build a barn on the Kjeldson homestead. After a brief period of working on a farm in North Dakota, he went west to Seattle. He worked loading lumber onto ships and building houses. He then went to Alaska and worked as a laborer for a year.
In December of 1941, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent WWII fighting in the jungles of the South Pacific.

Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned to Effie, Minn. and purchased a sawmill. Due to the lack of sufficient timber at the time, he was unable to stay in business. He returned to Washington, moving to Central Washington in 1949, where he did construction work for the irrigation project.
In 1950, he purchased 80 acres of farmland, cleared it, and brought water in. He continued to work at construction and carpentry in order to help support the farm.
On Feb. 19, 1953, he married Berta Hutchins. They lived in Soap Lake and built a house in Lakeview. He helped Berta raise her son, James Hutchins. In 1961, after James went into the service, Al and Berta built a house on the farm in Quincy. He farmed the land and started raising cattle in 1966. When he retired, they leased the farm for several years, finally selling it, and moving into Quincy in 1991. He and Berta lived there for 20 years.
All his life he enjoyed hunting and fishing and golf in his later years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Berta Kjeldson; his son, James Hutchins (wife Elizabeth); two grandchildren, Lee (wife Barbara) and Kirk (wife Marianne); and two great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Nathan.
At Al's request, there will be no services.
