Aliment likes life best on the Bar

Crescent Bar resident Larry Aliment spends his days in what he considers one of the best places on earth. Surrounded by beautiful cliffs, friendly neighbors, the Columbia River and with a golf course right next to his deck, Aliment is glad he and his wife decided to leave the coast for the more relaxed life of the Quincy area.

x93My sister had a place in the original North Park at Crescent Bar,x94 explained Aliment. x93She invited us over to x91get some sunshinex92 and we visited for Labor Day weekend. We bought our lot that weekend and within two weeks, we purchased a trailer.x94 That was in 1987.

Aliment met and married his wife of 26 years on May 29, in Auburn. The two have raised two sons, three daughters, and five grandchildren. After retiring from his sales position with City Transfer x97 Sand and Gravel in 2002, Aliment and his wife, Joan, made Crescent Bar their permanent home, so their youngest daughter, Aaryn, could attend Quincy High School.

x93We wanted our daughter to experience a smaller school setting where she could have more opportunities,x94 said Aliment.

Aaryn, who attends Western Washington University now, excelled at volleyball, golf, and enjoyed FBLA activities while she was a Quincy Jack.

x93At the time, our 14-year-old daughter was about ready to start high school and we thought that time would be a better time to transition her to a new place, rather than in the middle of high school. Additionally, we felt a small school atmosphere would afford her the wholesome opportunities we sought and she deserved. In many ways, the x91Opportunities Unlimitedx92 in Quincy extend themselves to the younger generation as well as to the older,x94 said Aliment.

The Aliments other four children are oldest son, Jeff, who lives in the Tri-Cities area and has three children; daughter, Tammara, who lives in Arizona; daughter, Shawn, is a new mom in Bonney Lake, and living with her is their son, Jason, an electrical contractor apprentice.

x93With our daughter, Aaryn, off to college, we are now empty nesters nine months of the year,x94 Aliment said. The other three months prove to be busy times, with lots of family visits and outdoors activities.

For 28 years, Aliment has been a member of the Shank City Golf group. The group of some 40 men has met for 41 years now to play in the Shank City Invitational Golf Tournament. Aliment recently played in the three-day tourney in Pasco this month.

x93Since moving to the area, I have become involved in the community in a way I was never able to do before moving here because of time restrictions while raising a family and the constraints of a demanding sales career,x94 said Aliment.

Although he is retiredx97 past jobs include working at the Smith Brothers Dairy, where he was known as x93Larry at the Dairyx94 and for Armstrong Homes.

Aliment stays busy golfing, having coffee with friends, and serving on the facilities committee for the Quincy School District. From February through May each year since 2002, Aliment is the Quincy High School assistant golf coach. Through his youngest daughter and one of her friends, Aliment met Dave Lemon and soon joined the Rotary. He also serves on the Quincy Valley Hospital Foundation and has been a past president of the organization for two years. The Aliments attend the Quincy Free Methodist Church.

Aliment and his wife, a special education paraprofessional at Monument School, like to travel, especially to Maui. They have fond memories of people they have met on their many trips and enjoy the friendships they have formed. They often travel to Seattle to visit with family and friends who still live over near the coast.

x93We treasure the relationships we have with our children and grandchildren, so the holiday season is filled with fun, homespun chaos. Spring brings golf and more golf and summer brings sunshine and activities on the river,x94 said Aliment.
