For Allred

The Grant County PUD has been a critical component of the economic success that all residents of our county have enjoyed over the last 40 years. It has provided cheap and reliable power to homes, farms and businesses of all sizes. Low cost power has become our expectation, and the GCPUD has had surplus power to sell to help keep county residents’ rates down. However, the GCPUD has now entered into a challenging operating climate, and the decisions that must be made are going to be far more difficult than those that were made in the past.

For instance, the mandates included in the federal dam relicensing agreement alone are estimated to cost upwards of 800 million dollars over the next 44 years. Upgrading of current power generating facilities is planned (estimated cost: one billion dollars) to improve efficiency, electrical output and meet licensing requirements. Grant County is going to run out of power in the not too distant future. Developing new sources of energy or improving the output of existing sources is going to be critical. It is also going to be expensive. With two billion in capital projects planned at the PUD, some very tough business decisions will need to be made to make sure that low cost power and other PUD services, including fiber, are still available to us all.

I am supporting Randy Allred because he has many years of business management experience as a successful farmer through good years and bad. I believe this knowledge will enable him to make the prudent and fiscally responsible decisions necessary regarding the future of the Grant County PUD. He understands that the PUD must remain strong financially to meet its historical purpose: the dependable delivery of low cost power to the residents of Grant County. Our continued economic growth and prosperity depend on it.
