Anderson’s art work will be on display through August.

Anderson has been painting ever since she was little. During her growing up years, Anderson observed her grandma recite poetry, sketch and paint for fun.

“I wanted to be like her,” said Anderson.

Her mother also encouraged her interest.

Anderson paints mainly floral and chicken pictures.

“I never set out to paint a certain thing. It just happens,” she said.

One picture of a rooster on display was inspired by a new rooster her dad got on his farm.

Anderson painted it in 10 minutes and took it to her dad’s office just for fun. It wasn’t meant to be anything great. People who came to the office saw it and started asking for prints. So Anderson had six made, not expecting them to sell.

She sold all of them. Anderson’s aunt has one in her house. After seeing the painting, people in Quincy have called Anderson asking her to paint chickens for them.

Anderson paints mainly for her own enjoyment.

“It’s all about texture and the experience of the whole process, from the blank canvas to the end,” said Anderson. “I don’t paint to sell. I paint to decorate my own walls. Painting is like recess.”

Anderson said painting for pleasure shouldn’t sell, but it does.

Teeter, Anderson’s aunt, is one of the biggest advocates for her art.

“Her house is like my own private gallery,” said Anderson. “She shows it off to all her friends.”

Teeter is responsible for Anderson’s art being displayed in Quincy.

In addition to painting, Anderson works for the Washington State Parks Clean Water Program and attends University of Washington full-time, pursuing a master’s degree in interdisciplinary arts and science.

She also writes poetry and is expecting her third book to come off the press soon.
