Bazan captures title
Vivian Bazan was able to capture the 152-pound title at a wrestling tournament in Royal two weeks ago.
The junior faced a pair of common opponents in Judith and Janet Carillo. But to face the sisters she had to defeat Othello’s Amanda Kinder in the first round. After opening up a 7-4 lead, Bazan earned a second-period fall.
In the second round, she built a 9-0 lead over Judith Carillo and earned the pin to advance to the finals. In her final match, she again jumped out to a 9-1 lead. This time she pinned Janet Carillo in the third period. The only other time they faced each other this season, Carillo won 8-6.
