Be there when they raise the curtain

For several years now, Quincy Valley Allied Arts has been doing its part to bring live performances to our community.

This year is no exception as they are putting on a rollicking production of “Guys and Dolls.”

While I haven’t seen the whole version yet, (I’m going this Friday) I have caught a number of rehearsals and I have to tell you, I think it’s going to be one of the best productions in the group’s history.

You don’t have to take my word alone — our reviewer, Rebecca Young, gives her take on last Saturday’s show on Page B8.

From what I’ve seen and heard, the unpaid volunteers who have collaborated to bring some high culture to our community have all done their part. The performances are polished and memorable, the orchestra is tuned up and the scenery and the costumes are all well-crafted.

Now it’s up to the community to do its part to make this year’s musical a success. We can do this by supporting the cast and crew and attending one of the three shows this week.

There are shows Thursday through Saturday that start at 7:30 p.m. at the Quincy High School Chuck McConnell Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Duda-Hodges Insurance or at the door.

A large, attentive and responsive audience really makes the live theater experience much more enjoyable and it is really the only reward the dedicated Allied Arts volunteers receive. If you haven’t planned to attend the show, please make plans to do so. I’m sure you’re going to have a great time.

Oh, and a suggestion for when you are at the show. Please do remember to turn off your cell phones and other electronic equipment.

Not only is a ringing phone distracting, but phones and other communication devices can also interfere with the sound equipment on the stage, making the experience much less enjoyable for everyone.
