Burglars caught in act

Four teen suspects arrested after apartment break-in

A Quincy resident defended his home against four burglars and helped to catch four suspects on Thursday, Jan. 26.

According to a report from the Quincy Police Department, a man was in his home at 10:10 a.m. on the 1000 block of Birch Street SW when he heard a rustling in his living room. The man first believed the noise was coming from a family member in the living room, but he soon discovered four intruders attempting to enter his bedroom. He struck one of the suspects with a board as they tried to come into the bedroom. The suspects ran out of the man’s apartment. The victim gave a short chase and as he returned home, he saw one of the suspects get into a vehicle. The victim took note of the license plate number and descriptions of the subjects and then called 911.

Quincy Police officers arrested two of the subjects in the area within minutes.

The vehicle was located shortly after and so were two more subjects. All of the stolen property taken from the victim’s home was recovered within a couple of blocks of the victim’s address.

“Based on our investigation, we believe there was a fifth subject involved that has not been identified to this date,” stated Sgt. Paul Snyder.

Francisco A. Medina, 18, was booked into Grant County Jail, two 17-year-old boys and a 16-year-old boy were booked into the Grant County Juvenile Youth Center for residential burglary and theft in the first degree.

“Fighting crime is a partnership and this is an example where a witness made all the difference in the world,” stated Snyder. “The Quincy Police Department encourages everyone to call 911 for suspicious activity. If anyone has any information about this burglary or any other, please call us.”

Snyder added that the police department now has a dedicated tips phone line. Residents can leave anonymous information at (509) 787-TIPS (8477) or send an e-mail to crimetips@quincypd.org.

@Forever Blue I am with you in being happy that the burglers got nabbed. I believe the citizen was responsible for these punks getting pinched however. Mentioning the comments about cops not getting out of thier cars has nothing to do with this article. Many, many citizens in Quincy do not know the cops because the QPD has not made an effort to bridge the gap. Although I rarely agree with Chuck Allen and find his points of view often painful and shortsighted, I am glad he shed light on some problems regarding the QPD. Good for the citizen and good for the QPD in nailing these dirtbags but that does not mean things can not improve.
