Coronation for Kylie Kooistra is this Saturday
Event is at Community Center
It is time to meet Miss Rodeo Washington, Kylie Kooistra.
Kooistra, a Quincy native, won the title of Miss Rodeo Washingon last September and will have the honor of representing Washington throughout 2012. She will be on the road most of the year attending rodeos across the United States.
Before she hits the road, she is having a coronation at the Quincy Community Center on Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. Admission is $20 each and includes a meal of baked potatoes provided by Horning Farms, cornbread, chili and salad. There will also be a dessert auction, with desserts provided by family and friends. Jones of Washington wine and Ancient Lakes Brewery beverages will also be available. There will be a silent and live auction throughout the night. Auction items include travel packages, a John Deere wagon, rodeo fan package, rodeo quilt and other items. The event is an opportunity for family, friends and the community to celebrate the start of Kooistra’s term.

“I look forward to spending a fun-filled coronation evening with our community, my family and friends. I desire this night to be an enjoyable social event and hope you’ll be able to join us,” stated Kooistra.
But as they say, this is not her first rodeo and achieving this goal came in steps. The first came in 2007 as Miss Othello Rodeo, followed by Miss Moses Lake Roundup in 2008. After a year away, she won the 2010 Miss Cheney Rodeo competition.
“It’s kind of a big deal,” Kooistra said. “It’s kind of exciting.”
During the competition in September, Kooistra was a strong competitor across the board.
The 2006 Quincy graduate won the horsemanship award, as well honors in sales, speech, personality and presentation. During the competition, she won five of nine events, but that was not her favorite part of the whole event.
“My favorite? The fans and seeing the reactions on what goes on in the arena and seeing a little girl in the stands who is seeing a rodeo queen for the first time,” she said with a smile. “This is one aspect of my life that really excites me. Being a role model and (letting people know) dreams are possible.”
Kooistra, a senior communications major at Eastern Washington University, is the daughter of Marvin and Shannon Kooistra.
“I want to thank my family, friends and sponsors and of course my Mom and Jaime Rauch — mentor and great friend,” said Kooistra.
