Folk singer trio plans to take CoffeeHouse stage

Show is Saturday, April 26 in George

The last CoffeeHouse presentation of the season is this Saturday in George with the acoustic three-woman folk trio of Humphrey, Hartman and Cameron.

Based in Richland, Janet Humphrey and Mary Hartman play a variety of musical instruments including guitars, banjos and the resophonic guitar. The duo is known across the Pacific Northwest for their original songs and smooth harmonies. Together since the 1990s, Humphrey and Hartman blend their voices with their instruments to deliver folksy, jazzy, bluesy music.

Hartman was a finalist in the Columbia Music festival's songwriting competition in 1992 and her song titled "Zomboni" was selected by The Prairie Home Companion's Garrison Keillor as one of the best Christmas songs of 1989.

Humphrey has fronted a jug band and arranged commercial music as well as teaching finger-style guitar.

Michelle Cameron, classically trained cellist, joined the duo about three years ago and adds a wonderful dimension to the group's harmonies. Cameron is featured on the group's album What Turns You On (2004).

Other albums available for sale on the trio's website are: In Transit (1987), Proud Traditions, Last of the Big Suspenders, and On Solid Ground. The web address is www.humphreyandhartman.com.

The folk trio takes the stage at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening at the George CoffeeHouse. Doors open at 6:30 and organizers will pass a coffee can around during intermission to collect donations (suggested donations of $6 to $10 per person) for the show. Coffee, tea, cookies and numerous other refreshments will be made available by the Georgettes for a donation during intermission. The coffeehouse is located at 401 W. Montmorency in George.

Humphrey, Hartman, and Cameron will play in Toppenish next at the Buena Grange Hall on May 17.
