The Lady Jacks two tallest players, Marinda Talley and Aurorah Davis, were sitting the bench inside the first three minutes of the game after picking up two personal fouls apiece. This led to the bench stepping in, but that plan was short-lived as RaeAnna Hand and Letty Blancas picked up two fouls each and were forced to the bench.

By the time the first quarter ended, the Lady Jacks were down 10-1 and their posts players were all in foul trouble. But the team shook off the first-quarter blues and climbed back within one point. Talley scored four of her team-high 10 points in the quarter, while Candice Snyder, Madison Petersen and Davis each added a bucket to pull within 14-13 with just over a minute to go before the half.

“It was just defense and better rebounding,” coach Cully Donovan said about the second-quarter surge. “We were just better defensively.”

But Snyder rolled her ankle and Cascade’s Kelsey Graham dropped in back-to-back buckets to give her team an 18-13 lead entering the break. But it was the third quarter which decided the game, as the Lady Kodiaks outscored Quincy 19-8 for a 37-19 lead.

“We just came out flat in the third quarter,” Donovan said. “They were pumped and excited.”

Cashmere 59, Quincy 19

Quincy managed just 19 points against an up-tempo, pressing Lady Bulldog squad last Wednesday. Talley and Perez each scored six points for Quincy.

The Lady Jacks are back in action Friday and Saturday for Central Washington Athletic Conference action. Friday they host East Valley, followed by Othello on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to start at 5:45 p.m.
