Gorge season starts Memorial Day weekend
Work is under way to replace and upgrade a stage at The Gorge Amphitheatre.
The 2010 concert season at The Gorge Amphitheatre will begin Memorial Day weekend, when the Sasquatch! Music Festival will take the stage for three days of music.
The festival will feature Pavement, Massive Attack, My Morning Jacket, Ween, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Kid Cudi, LCD Soundsystem, The National, Band of Horses and many others.
Craig Robinson of “The Office” and Rob Riggle of “The Daily Show,” among others, will present comedic acts.

“It’s our goal each year to present a fresh lineup that reflects the independent spirit of the Pacific Northwest, respects the artists and audience and celebrates the grandeur of The Gorge,” said festival creator Adam Zacks.
On June 11 and 12, rock-and-roll hall-of-famers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will perform at The Gorge, along with Joe Cocker.
On July 3, the Lilith Fair Tour will return to the Gorge, featuring headliner Sarah Mclachlan. The tour is being reborn this summer after a hiatus of several years.
On July 17, rock band Kings of Leon, buoyed by the success of their first platinum-selling album in the United States, “Only by the Night,” will take The Gorge stage.
On Aug. 14, the Vans Warped Tour will return to The Gorge. The tour, now in its 16th year, will feature a variety of punk rock bands, including Reel Big Fish, Dropkick Murphys, Sum 41 and The All-American Rejects.
“Anyone who thought that after the 15th anniversary we would let up was mistaken,” said tour founder Kevin Lyman.
The Dave Matthews Band will make its customary trip to The Gorge on Labor Day weekend for its three-day set, and the season will conclude with Jack Johnson performing on Oct. 2.

• Work is under way to replace the stage and rigging system at The Gorge Amphitheatre.
“The old stage has been a recognizable part of the unique backdrop at The Gorge for many years,” said Danny Wilde, senior vice president for Live Nation Venues in the Pacific Northwest. “But the needs of the modern touring production have outgrown the old guy, so it is time to replace it with a new system that will ensure Live Nation is able to continue to bring the biggest and the best touring artists in the world to this unbelievable location.”
The project also includes improvements to backstage facilities and the first phase of a lengthy plan to overhaul the front of house.
“We owe it to the fans and artists alike to update and improve and keep The Gorge at the top of the list of outdoor venues,” Wilde said.
The project to remove the old system and assemble the new one is being spearheaded by Mountain Productions, which will be providing its SuperMega Truss system, widely considered to be one of the premier touring stage systems in North America.
“The Gorge is one of the top venues in the nation and Mountain Productions is thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of such a project,” said Jim Evans, president and general manager for Mountain Productions.
