In our opinion ...
Memorial Day weekend will be a time of fun and play for many of us. That is right and good. But we should also take a few minutes to remember those who have made our freedom and prosperity possible. There is no better place and time to do this then Monday at the Quincy Valley Cemetery during the annual Memorial Day ceremony at 12:30 p.m. The ceremony gives us a chance to stand together and show our gratitude for our servicemen and women who have passed on from this life.
As you attend the ceremony, take some time before or after and walk through the grounds. Look at the many grave sites of veterans and walk along the many flags of veterans that will be posted on the grounds that day. We all should be proud of them and grateful for their efforts.

The Quincy Port District has announced that it will open the Quincy Valley Golf Course, now named Colockum Ridge Golf Course, on May 31. Course superintendent Chris Dowd and volunteers have been working hard to make the course playable and improve its condition. The Port District is also taking annual memberships. This year, individual memberships are just $300. The Port District has made a commitment to saving the course. Now it's our turn to support them. If you play golf, please consider purchasing a membership.
