Jambo kicks off season

Both the QHS boys and girls varsity basketball teams opened their seasons with a couple jamboree games on Tuesday. The girls were pitted against Eastmont and Moses Lake, while the boys team faced Moses Lake and Warden. The games were two five-minute halves for a total of 20 minutes.

The girls had a tough opener against Eastmont. The press, pseed and eight was too much to overcome in a 22-7 loss. Marinda Talley led the Lady Jacks with three points, while RaeAnna Hand and Katia Perez each added two points.

Things improved against Moses Lake. At the half, Quincy trailed 10-9 and ended up losing 22-12. On the bright side, the Lady Jacks had more success scoring and found better shots. Candice Snyder and Talley each scored four points, Valerie Tobin had two points, while Letty Blancas and Perez added one point apiece.

The boys lost to Moses Lake 15-6 in their opener. Mario Martinez scored all six points for the Jacks. In the second game, Quincy was able to grab a 16-11 win over Warden. Martinez led the Jacks with seven points, while Kody Berens had four points, Jesus Pedregon added three points and Joaquin Vega had two points.

Both teams traveled to Cashmere Wednesday (results next week) and host Cashmere Dec. 6 and open the CWAC season Dec. 9 against visiting East Valley. The girls varsity starts at 5:45 p.m. and the boys will play at 7:30 p.m.
