In Response to Pete Romano:

You mention in your letter to the editor that “Mr. Johnson has already missed numerous public opportunities to debate the issues, including a forum in front of a group of business and industry leaders.”

What numerous opportunities?

To set the record straight — I have not missed any opportunities to go before groups or the public nor have I failed to reach out, within our limited resources, to all that will listen, except the one event that Mr. Romano eludes to in his letter. If, in fact, I have missed numerous debate opportunities, I certainly was not invited to, nor otherwise aware of them; and as a candidate I would liked to have been.

Since Mr. Romano did not mention what opportunity it was that I did not attend, I have to assume it was an EDC breakfast meeting that I had been called and invited to. I was told that it was just a breakfast meeting/intro so that EDC members could meet me. I had said at the time that I would be there, but later cancelled by e-mail due to a prior commitment. If I would have been told that it was a debate upfront I would have changed my plans. As it was presented to me, I did not want to give an appearance of support which I felt could dilute my focus on rates, the residential owners, farmers, and family-owned businesses within the county, and my focus on the future of our dams.

The in-print debate was a suggested solution to what I perceive as a news bias and a lack of exposure due to limited resources. The issues that face Grant County PUD and its owners should be front page news, not just letters to the editors.

— Sam Johnson, Candidate for PUD Commissioner
