Kimmel looks forward to involvement
Christy Kimmel recenly moved to Quincy
One Selah Class of 1996 alumnus ventured far beyond Washington state’s borders before settling in Quincy recently.
Christy Kimmel was born in Yakima and grew up in Selah. She attended St. Louis University in Madrid, Spain, the University of Washington where she earned her bachelor of arts in comparative religion and international studies, and the University of Montana for her master’s degree in communication counseling.

“I started taking classes in religion and found I really liked it,” said Kimmel. She spent one semester abroad in Spain during her undergraduate work.
Kimmel has worked for Grant County Mental Health in Quincy and as the director of children’s ministries for the First United Methodist Church in Wenatchee for three years.
“I worked on all aspects of children’s ministry, including Sunday school and vacation Bible school,” she said.
Kimmel is now a stay-at-home mom to Gabriel, 3 years, and Abigail, 11 months.
In addition to reading novels like John Irving’s Better Off, a nonfiction account of one man’s yearlong experiment with a sustainable lifestyle, Kimmel enjoys taking walks around the neighborhood with her children and swimming.
“I learned a few things from the Irving book; we do not have cable television and we spend as much family time together as possible. We bought a non-motorized push lawnmower and we use a special can in our kitchen for recycling. We make a point of spending time with people versus things,” Kimmel explained.
Kimmel’s other talent is in video editing.
“I found that I enjoy taking people’s photographs and videos and editing them with music and special effects. I started with a vacation video I edited for my father-in-law,” she said.
As a MOPs member in Wenatchee, Kimmel put together a video for the Mothers’ of Preschoolers that was a big hit. Kimmel may be reached at 787-2672 for her editing services.
Married to Quincy High School art teacher, Matthew Kimmel, for eight years, Kimmel easily relates to her husband’s job since her mother was in education.
“Both my parents are retired. My mother was a school principal and my father a city planner,” she said. She has two younger brothers who live in Washington state.
Kimmel met her husband while working as a camp counselor 10 years ago at Rimrock Lake at White Pass.
“We were at a church-based water ski camp. Matthew, who is a die-hard water-skier, was a ski instructor, boat driver and lifeguard. We began dating a few months later and married in Yakima in 2000. I grew up around boats and enjoyed knee boarding,” she added.
The Kimmels recently moved from Wenatchee to Quincy and eagerly await the growth of their new lawn. As a couple, they enjoy watching comedy movies, especially those starring Adam Sandler.
The two enjoy traveling and have visited Hawaii.
“We love to go camping and boating; anything on the water is fun for us, whether playing on the river in a boat, canoe or kayak,” she said.
Recently, the family has been traveling to Missoula, Mont. and in the future, they hope to visit major art spots in Europe, including venues in Italy and France.
Kimmel is a woman who loves to cook and says her specialty is Thai peanut chicken satay.
“Christy makes a great satay that is really hot,” said her husband.
“I’m somewhat of a community activist,” said Kimmel who looks forward to joining Quincy community activities.
