Knodells ousted by Centralia

The WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires 2A Tennis Championships was dominated by the bigger 2A schools this season and no one can attest to that more than Quincy High School entries Bonnie and Colleen Knodell.

The Lady Jackrabbit twins ran into a pair of brick walls in state runners-up Andrea d’Aquino and Anne d’Aquino of Squalicum. The Lady Storm twins blanked the Quincy twins 6-0, 6-0 and wound up in second place in the girls doubles championships.

The Quincy girls dropped into the consolation bracket and lost to Centralia’s Jonica McMillan and Maggie Hernandez 6-0, 6-2. The loss eliminated the Kodells from the tournament and ended their senior campaign with an overall record of 18-8.

The CWAC was well represented by the Ellensburg boys team, which placed second as a team behind Sehome.

The top CWAC individual performers came from Ellensburg and Selah. Lady Bulldogs Abigail Pellett was sixth in girls singles, while teammate Josiah Jackson placed fourth in the boys singles division. In boys doubles, Selah’s Kevin Bertelsen and Devin Teske were third.
