Kooy to display work at Kazda art space

Betty Kooy, a Moses Lake artist, displays one of her paintings that will be in the Quincy Library this fall.

The striking paintings you’ll see at the Mary Kazda Art Space in Quincy this fall are the work of Betty Kooy, watercolor artist from Moses Lake.

She enjoys painting nature, people, eagles and flowers from her own garden. She also draws and paints family members. She has a painting in acrylic on a feather of an eagle. While she does some painting with acrylics or oils, she prefers working with watercolors “because of the wonderful effects it can create,” she said.

Kooy took a number of art courses in college, though she started drawing as a child. She has been seriously painting for 10 years.

“It is part of my retirement plan for getting out and enjoying life,” she said.

Kooy and her husband, Evert, have lived in Moses Lake for 32 years. Betty, however, does have family in Quincy. Her mother is Molly Rasmussen and her sister is Marilyn Cordova.

“I think beautiful paintings, objects and music speak to the heart,” Kooy said.

Kay Judge, one of the curators, said, “It is a very colorful and varied exhibit.”

The show will last from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31. It is located in the Quincy Public Library at 108 B St. SW. Call 787-2359 for more details.
