Kacie Reynolds converted a steal into two-points during Tuesday's 46-27 win over Othello.

The Lady Jacks were just one take-a-way shy of 20 steals on Tuesday night.

With Sara Horning and Candice Snyder leading the way with a combined nine steals, the Lady Jacks were able to pick up their second CWAC victory of the season via a 46-27 win over Othello. The win bumps the Lady Jacks up 2-10 and leaves the Lady Huskies at 0-12.

According to Snyder (eight points, nine rebounds, four steals), a key element in their win came from their full court press, which helped Quincy jump out to a 16-2 first quarter lead.

“I wish we did it more,” she said. “I thought we did really good on that. Most of the steal came off the press. It was bam, bam, bam for awhile. We should do this all the time.”

While the defense was stingy and opportunistic, the offense used the duo of Marinda Talley (20 points, 11 rebounds, three steal) and Aurorah Davis (five points, 14 rebounds, three blocks). Talley was the catalyst in the first quarter with 10 points.

Othello kicked up their game in the second quarter, as both teams scored nine points. The rest of the way the Lady Jacks slowly built on their 14 point first quarter lead to finally win by 19 points at the end.

Madison Peterson (five points, four rebounds) led the team with four assists, Horning (four points, four rebounds, three assists) led the team with five steals and Kacie Reynolds added four points and two steals.

Coach Cully Donovan was impressed with Davis in the paint and her 14 rebounds.

“That's coming off a 16 rebounds night against Grandview,” he said.

The one downfall on the night was the shooting percentage of the Lady Jacks. The team shot just 20 percent going 17-of-81. But that also shows how well they rebounded. The Lady Jacks grabbed 44 boards, which gave them plenty of second and third opportunities.

“We did get good looks when we moved the ball around,” Donovan said. “They also flew around to get rebounds.”

Grandview 56, Quincy 33

The host Lady Greyhounds (6-6) used a 22-9 second quarter run to defeat Quincy 56-33 last Saturday night. Both Talley and Davis scored nine points, while Davis collected 16 rebounds.
