Looking back into Quincy's past: Aug. 19

10 years ago: August 17, 2000

The Columbia Basin River Dogs showed their character in the opening three games of the 16-year-old Babe Ruth World Series in Moses Lake.

All three games came down to the final inning, but each time the River Dogs held on or surged by to advance in the winner's bracket.

20 years ago: August 23, 1990

Quincy football players got an extra workout Saturday when they bucked about 1,000 bales of straw in to a stack near Simplot Foods farm north of town. They were assisted by their coach, Bill Alexander, and several parents. The straw will be sold by the Rotary Club to raise funds for the Quincy Community Center.

30 years ago: August 21, 1980

Slade Gorton and his wife visited with Sid Flanagan following a breakfast here Friday morning at which the attorney general was the speaker. He outlined his goals and priorities in the campaign for the U.S. Senate.

40 years ago: August 20, 1970

Mickey Manly, Neal Manly, Wendy Jenson and Kathy Culp dressed up for the last day of the Junior Women's Club Story Hour. The children watched a film and were served real ice cream cones to match their paper cone name tags.

50 years ago: August 17, 1960

Dick Galt, principal of the Junior High School, happily looked over the new locker rooms which were added to the school as part of the renovation and addition.

60 years ago: August 18, 1950

A record enrollment of 325 students is anticipated by school officials when the 1950-51 school year officially begins here Tuesday, Aug. 29. Enrollment will have increased approximately 60 percent over last fall's figure of 198.
