Firefighters were able to protect eight homes from fire that burnt approximately 900 acres at the Quincy Lakes area on Monday. A burn ban for Grant County was issued in response.

20 years ago: August 9, 1990
The men's and women's twilight leagues continued action at the Crescent Bar Golf Course this week. Winners in women's play were Terri Mikolasy, first place, and Bev McDonald, second place. Low putt honors went to Joanne Baldridge, and the longest putt was posted by Pat McNaughton.
In men's action, Rob Tobeck and Steve Molitor were low gross winners.
30 years ago: August 7, 1980
Canal Days, Quincy's local celebrative festival, will be held in the city park this coming Saturday. The celebration will begin with a children's parade. Festivities will also include a frisbee contest, a dog show and the annual Swim-O-Rama.
40 years ago: August 6, 1970
The cherry harvest of Montmorency pie cherries is underway at the Charlie Brown orchard at George. This year, the cherries are being pitted and packed at the orchard.
50 years ago: August 4, 1960
Westover and Hope, Quincy building contractors, were awarded the general contract to build the new library here when bids were opened by the city council Monday. Their bid was $28,426 plus sales tax. The total cost for the building is estimated at $43,030.26.
