City of George officials received word they have been selected for more than $450,000 in grants for new improvements to their streets.

20 years ago: March 15, 1990
Merle Wilson has returned to Quincy as the police chief, a job he left in 1979 to become undersheriff for Grant County. A veteran of 23 years in law enforcement, Wilson was appointed chief March 1 to replace Ken Carlile.
30 years ago: March 13, 1980
The Burkettes of George celebrated their 25th anniversary last Tuesday with a potluck dinner. Three 25-year members were present at the dinner and were given special recognition. They are Tina Woltjer, Katie Leitner and Helen Johnson.
40 years ago: March 12, 1970
The rail lines of Great Northern, Burlington Lines (Chicago, Burlington and Quincy), Northern Pacific and Spokane, Portland and Seattle merged March 2. They will operate under the name Burlington Northern.
Construction of a new 60-bed nursing home in Quincy will start in the near future. It will be located between Highway 28 and the hospital.
50 years ago: March 10, 1960
Quincy Jackrabbits became North Central Washington Class "A" Champions when they beat the top-rated Pioneers 51-38 in the Class "A" basketball game last Friday night in Ephrata.

60 years ago: March 17, 1950
Norma Beckemeier, 17-year-old blond senior at Quincy High School, was named as Quincy's Apple Blossom Princess.
