Looking back into Quincy's past: Sept. 2

10 years ago: August 31, 2000

Patrick Connelly, Mavis Melcher and Eric Dunkin were recently honored by the Quincy Lions Club for 12 years of support for the G-Q's 4-H Club. This year the Quincy Lions raised over $600 through an auction of homemade baked goods.

20 years ago: September 6, 1990

This season Quincy has a squad of six varsity cheerleaders and three junior varsity cheerleaders for the fall sports. The cheerleaders are Jennifer Coleman, Leslie Valdez, Kathleen Wraspir, Heather Kennedy, Malinda Roduner; Kim Omlin, Nickie Wyles, Amy Michael and Sara Child.

30 years ago: September 4, 1980

A new bean receiving warehouse has recently opened for business in Quincy. It is operated by Wayne Farmer, formerly of California. It will be known as Farmer Grain Company.

40 years ago: September 3, 1970

Winners of the horseshoe tournament in Quincy on Sunday were as follows: Class A - Jim Stephens 1st; Rufus Noris, 2nd; John Cayko, 3rd; Class B - Merwin Stellman, 1st; Harold Quick, 2nd; Cliff Durfee, 3rd; Class C - Charles Colleary, 1st; Cliff Durfee, 2nd; Class D - Chuck Zyph, 1st; Dennis Durfee, 2nd.

50 years ago: September 1, 1960

Charlie and Edith Brown invite you to be their guest and enjoy with them a piece of the World's Largest Cherry Pie (1/2 ton and 8 foot square) on Sunday Sept. 4 at 2 p.m.

60 years ago: September 1, 1950

Nine lettermen were among the 16 football enthusiasts who turned out for the season's first scrimmage and practice session on opening day. Coach Mel Cheesman said the prospects for the season were very good.
