Christmas toy drive ends Dec. 16

Quincy Valley residents are encouraged to participate in the annual Giving Tree Toy Drive conducted by the Quincy Valley Lions Club this December.

Envelopes with information on a needy child in the Quincy Valley can be found on trees at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rob’s Video, Studio 90, Key Bank, Washington Trust Bank, Gates True Value and Ace True Value. Many envelopes are still left.

The wrapped gifts should be turned in to Key Bank by Friday, Dec. 16. Cash donations can also be made at the bank. For information on how to make a donation, call Amie Durfee at 237-1077.

Wheatland Bank food drive

The employees of the Quincy branch of Wheatland Bank are conducting a food drive for the Quincy Food Bank through Jan. 13.

Non-perishable food items and cash can be donated at the branch at 1015 Central Ave. S, during regular business hours.

QHS Arts Night

Quincy High School fine arts students will show their work during the QHS Arts Night on Monday, Dec. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the high school art studio.

Then the QHS music ensembles will perform at 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center.

Wenatchee Wild group night

The Quincy Recreation Department is putting together a group night for the Wenatchee Wild hockey game on Friday, Dec. 30 at the Town Toyota Center.

Tickets are $15 and can be reserved at the City of Quincy Public Services Building across from City Hall. On Dec. 30, the Wild will be giving away a free pair of knit gloves to the first 2,000 fans. To reserve tickets, call the Recreation Department at 787-3523, ext. 251 by Dec. 16.

Ice Age Floods Institute meeting

The Wenatchee Valley Erratics Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center, 127 S. Mission in Wenatchee.

Ralph Haugerud, geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey and University of Washington affiliate will give a presentation titled “The Physiography of the Wenatchee Area: Stories from Detailed Topography.” The program is free and open to the public.

Fisher hired on as new deputy

Grant County Sheriff’s deputy Jake Fisher was sworn into office on Nov. 21. Fisher, who completed the Grant County Regional Reserve Officers Academy in 2009, had been an active reserve deputy and was hired to fill a full-time position that came open.

He will attend the law enforcement academy in Burien. When he finishes the academy, he will serve as a patrol deputy for the Sheriff’s Office, stated Sheriff Tom Jones.

WAEF makes Apple Cup donations

The Washington Apple Education Foundation made donations of $5,000 to the University of Washington and Washington State University’s scholarship funds before the Apple Cup football game between the two schools on Nov. 26 in Seattle.

Corrections and omissions

• In the Dec. 1 edition of the Post-Register, the article about Don Bunch incorrectly stated that he stained his wood creations. Bunch does not apply stain to his work, only clear coats of finish.

• The Nov. 24 article on Aubrey Strong left out the name of his great-grandson Caden “Strong” Cameron.
