Atwood nominated for Oscar
Quincy native Colleen Atwood was nominated for a 2009 Academy Award in the costume design category.
Atwood was honored for her work on ‘Nine,’ a 2009 movie directed by Rob Marshall and starring Daniel Day-Lewis.

Sandy Powell won the Oscar for her work on ‘The Young Victoria’ during the presentation ceremony Feb. 7.
The nomination was the eighth of Atwood’s career, all coming in the best costume design category. She won an Oscar in 2006 for her work on ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’ and 2002 for her work on ‘Chicago.’ Currently, her costume design work can be seen in Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland.’
Men arrested in drive-by shooting
Two Quincy men were arrested Friday night on suspicion of shooting a gun into the air from a moving vehicle earlier that night.
Jose Rafael Robles Avalos, 23, and Reinaldo Garcia Carrillo, 35, are accused of drive-by shooting, reckless endangerment, criminal conspiracy, possession of a concealed weapon and being an alien in possession of a firearm, said Quincy Police Detective Paul Snyder.
Avalos, who is accused of shooting the weapon into the air, was also arrested on suspicion of carrying a loaded weapon in a vehicle. Carrillo was the driver of the car.
The shooting occurred about 6:30 p.m. near F Street Northeast and Hilltop Avenue, Snyder said. A witness followed the vehicle after the shooting and got a license plate number. Police executed a search warrant later that night at a Quincy residence on Cenetral Avenue and recovered the suspected weapon, a .45 semi-automatic handgun, according to reports.
