Port to hold second economic summit
The Port of Quincy will hold its Second Annual Rural Economic Development Summit at Cave B Inn at SageCliffe on Thursday, Nov. 4.
This year’s summit will primarily focus on freight mobility and transportation issues (intermodal, distribution, rail and trucking issues) impacting freight and agricultural shippers in North Central Washington and the Columbia Basin.
“The thought all along was with the intermodal terminal and the Cold Train here, the transportation theme made sense,” said Port of Quincy business affairs consultant Pat Boss earlier this year.

“After the summit last year, we were talking about how transportation is another important theme and topic to this area. We felt it made a lot of sense to have a theme that relates to Quincy and Grant County because this is a central transportation hub for the area. It’s a connection to ocean ports and midwest markets. A number of speakers will talk about how it benefits not only agriculture, but other sectors of the economy.”
Several leaders on transportation and freight mobility issues in Washington will be attending and presenting at this year’s summit, including: Rep. Mike Armstrong, Washington State House of Representatives; Rep. Judy Clibborn, Washington State House of Representatives; and Bill Bryant, president of the Port of Seattle.
