This year, between local, college, other miscellaneous scholarships, military and the Gear-Up program, Quincy High School graduates and alumni received about $610,000 in educational awards.

SCHOLARSHIPS

David Benitez: GEAR UP Scholarship, $7,480; US Army Montgomery GI Bill, $47,556; Senior Enlistment Bonus, $11,000.

Becca Boen: Washington State University Achievement Award, $2,500 each for two years.

Alyssa Castro: Quincy Valley Hospital Auxiliary, $500.

Lupe Cortez: Gius Foundation Scholarship, up to $5,000 each for two years.

Ryanne Durfee: Paul Lauzier Foundation, $2,000.

Marty Field: Gius Foundation Scholarship, up to $5,000 each for two years.

Michael Garcia: GEAR UP Scholarship, $4,000.

Maritsa German: GEAR UP Scholarship, $6,720.

Jesse Gonzales: PEMCO Foundation Scholarship, $900 each for four years.

AWARDS

The Washington State Honors Award is awarded to the top 10 percent of Washington State High School seniors. Quincy recipients are: Eliseo Guerrero, Eric Martin, Gabino Guerrero, Katelyn Weber, Becky Hoyt, Timothy Weber, Michael Lemon.

Ernie Forge Foundation awards help carry out a community project or service. Recipients were Ross Massey for materials to teach a community welding class; Kaitlyn Nielson held a juvenile diabetes benefit dinner; and Gabriela Ribeiro repaired the Community Center Christmas display. A total of $1,572 was awarded.

U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award: Kevin Hille, Colleen Knodell.

U.S. Marine Corps Awards Scholastic Excellence: Rebecca Boen, Michael Lemon.

Semper Fidelis (music): Holly Star Grigg, Marcos Sanchez.

Distinguished Athlete: Alyssa Castro, Tim Silvas. U.S. Air Force Outstanding Math & Science Award: Becky Hoyt, Michael Lemon.
