QHS students earn academic awards

This year, between local, college, other miscellaneous scholarships, military, the Gear-Up program, Quincy High School graduates and alumni received over $340,000 in educational awards.

AWARDS

The Washington State Honors Award is awarded to the top 10 percent of Washington State High School seniors.Quincy recipients are: Laura Becerra, Amanda Misasi, Matthew Benedict, Yuri Reyes, Jay Cedergreen, Danielle Talley, Kenneth Hardiman, LeAnn Veenendaal, Kayla Horning, Tiffany Yeates and Jessica Lerma.

The Washington State Principals’ Scholars Award honors the academic achievements of students in the top 5 percent of the graduating class. Quincy recipients are: Jay Cedergreen, Amanda Misasi, Kayla Horning, Danielle Talley, Jessica Lerma, Tiffany Yeates and Marisol Lopez.

Ernie Forge Foundation awards help carry out a community project or service. Recipients are: the QHS Contained Class ($750), the DJ Senior Project, Diego Jimenez and Josue Gonzalez ($265) and Gabe Escure, Abel Vargas & Yozi Hernandez for their senior project ($215). All of the funds this year were used to build picnic tables for the high school and city parks.

U.S. Air Force Outstanding Math and Science Award: Jay Cedergreen, Jessica Lerma.
