Quincy Open plays Umatilla's Big River

The 31st Annual Quincy Open at Big River Golf Course in Umatilla, Ore. last Friday. Fifty-four golfers met the challenge of the Nine Hole Eye Opener.

The World Famous Quincy Open Horse Race was held in the afternoon under shining skies with 25 two-man teams. After much excitement it came down to the final hole with five teams still in the hunt! Third and fourth place was determined by a chip-off with the team of Patric Connelly and Pete Romano prevailing over the team of Ron Stetner and Doug Dunkin. First and second was also determined by an exciting chip-off with the team of Tom Overcast and George Phelps besting the team of Bob Konen and Tyler Greenwood.

Low gross (tie): 1 – Josey Ferguson and Kurt Swartz 38. 2 – Pat Tobin and Pete Romano 40. Low net: 1-Pat Tobin; 2, Josey Ferguson; 3, Wade Gebers.

High Gross of the Field: 1. Dave Lemon 62; 2, Chuck Graaff and Dan Gates 61.

KP #11: Bill Blue. KP #13: Nate Overcast. KP #17 (2nd shot): Rick Kissler . Long Drive: Tyler Greenwood. Accuracy Drive: Ferguson. Short Drive Champion: Lemon edged out Graaff. The Least Putts (three-way tie): Gary “Gator” Hages, Jeff Schwint and Erwin Albrecht with 13 putts. The Most Putts (three-way tie): David Thomsen, Gates, and Graaff with 20 putts each.

Calcutta: 1. Rich Longwill, Tom Overcast, and Tobin; 2, Pat Conway, Kiall Swift, and John Vankeulen; 3, Gebers, Kevin Thaemert and Ron Stetner; 4, Dave Darrington, Josey Ferguson and RT Golubic.

A donation of $500 was also generated for the Quincy Booster’s Club designated for the Quincy High School Golf Program.
