Ready to do business in Quincy
Ronda Anderson recently opened a new business in Quincy.
Ronda Anderson came from Napa, Calif. to Quincy back in November. Anderson is a Washington native, born and raised in Lake Stevens. She invested in a boat building and repair business in Bellingham, but it just didn’t seem to fit her.
“I didn’t really like the building and repairing of the boats so much,” said Anderson. Eventually her luck changed as she found her niche. A couple who owned a boat canvas shop asked her to assist with the canvas work. Anderson loved it, because it involved so much sewing, which she enjoyed.
“There is so much involved with boat covers. You have to design,” said Anderson.

Excited and inspired by her new passion, she got online and discovered a school in Cleveland, Ohio that taught advanced classes on boat covers and enclosures. Eventually, Anderson took over the canvas shop at the marina in Bellingham, and enjoyed the location and the views of the San Juan Islands. Because of the economy, she was looking to downsize, and went to California for 10 months to explore business options there.
“The Bay area was not for me. We did a lot of work in San Francisco, and I ended up spending more time in the car than anything else. There were toll bridges everywhere. You could spend $24 a day on tolls alone,” said Anderson.
Again, fate called her back to Washington, when her son, who was a recent transplant to the area, invited her to come up for Thanksgiving.
“I came up here planning to stay for one week and I am still here,” she said.
Anderson got a phone number from a friend, with a lead on an empty shop. It was just the spark she needed. She opened Quincy Custom Canvas and Repair on the corner of Division Street and 6th Avenue SE.
Anderson is from a small community and she loves it here.
“People are very welcoming and willing to help you out. You can see the same face twice, and you get to know your neighbors,” she said.
Anderson is excited to see the Quincy Valley bloom into the summer season, offering fresh fruits and vegetables. She loves the scenery and the beautiful country roads outside of town. “When the grass is green around here, it feels like home to me,” she said.
