Repeat Offenders win Mora tournament
Derek Lynch lays out for a catch in right field during last weekend's Tony Mora Senior Memorial Softball Tournament.
The 21st Annual Tony Mora Senior Memorial Softball Tournament had a familiar vibe throughout the three-day tournament. For the ninth straight year, grandson Frankie Mora Jr. and great-grandson David Stephens guided their team to the championship game. This year their ‘Repeat Offenders’ won the title game against Desert Dogs of Moses Lake.
The Mora family also handed out their Most Inspirational award to coach and mentor of the Desert Dogs – Sergio Valdez. They chose Valdez for a couple of reasons. The first is that his team is made up of family and the second that they have participated in the tournament for the vast majority of the years.
“We’ve been here every year for the past 17 years,” Valdez said. “Most of the team is related to me. I have three boys and six nephews on the team. I keep my family together.”
