School briefs - March 26

School employees honored

The Quincy School District gave out its annual employee awards during the school board meeting on Tuesday, March 24. Cory Medina received the certificated employee's award for Mountain View Elementary, and Debbie Ramsey the classified employee's award. At Pioneer Elementary, Charlene Hogarty received the certificated award and Ana Argueta, the classified. Mike Silk was the certificated award winner and Liesa Field the classified at George Elementary. At Monument Elementary, Darrell Lembcke was the certificated recipient and Wanda Castellanos the classified. Quincy Junior High winners were Teresa Goninan for certificated and Corina Kling for classified. At High Tech High, Owen Sanford was the certificated award recipient and Mary Garza the classified recipient. Quincy High School gave the certificated award to Cynthia Jackson and Cindy Kehl received the classified award. Support services named Tammy Ybarra as the certificated award recipient and Sandy Trevino received the classified award. Jackson and Trevino were named the district-wide award recipients.

BBCC inducts students

More than 40 Big Bend Community College students were recently inducted into the Rho Zeta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. Phi Theta Kappa is the national honor society for two-year colleges and Rho Zeta is the BBCC chapter. To be invited to join, students must have earned a minimum of 12 credits with at least a 3.4 GPA. Quincy students inducted are Joie L. Chapman-Oswood and Christopher L. VanDyke.

WVC releases President's List

Chelsea Bushaw, Edgar Camacho and Janelle Hoersch were named to the Wenatchee Valley College President's List for earning a perfect 4.0 grade point average in 12 or more college credits for the fall quarter 2008. Guadalupe Barajas, Ana Posadas, Griselda Romero and Annastashia Zamarron were named to WVC's Dean's List for earning a 3.5 or higher GPA for fall quarter 2008.

Gonzaga honors students

Christopher and Katherine Pontarolo-Maag were both named to Gonzaga University's President's List for fall semester 2008. Students must earn a 3.7 or better GPA to be listed.

Becerra graduates

Quincy native Juan Becerra graduated from Perry Technical Institute's Electrical Technology Program.

Monument winners chosen

Monument Students of the Month for March were chosen for honesty or academics. They were fourth-graders Eduardo Aceveda, Julissa Cerda, Chloe Ovenell, Audry Allen, Jesus Sanchez, Jirvin Espinoza, Karina Blancas, Maricela Ochoa, Graciela Serrano, Estela Adame, Jesus Lopez, Raul Vega, Alejandro Gomez, Katarina Garcia, Katie Aguilar, Jaclyn Schwint, Carlos Guadarrama, Marlo Omlin and Francisco Vasquez. Fifth-grade winners were Ingrid Gonzalez, Jesus Cuevas, Ty Stump, Stefanie Arredondo, Bridgid Blalock, Marissa Davila, Jessica Thompson, Gunner Petersen, Nick Martinez, Maribel Alejandres, Corey Gottschalk, Stephanie Diaz, Rigo Villa, Amairany Cruz, Nickolas A. Lopez, Maria Rotter, Johan Farias, Cynthia Aguilar, Omar Zafra, Alberto Tafoya, Francisco Torres and Juan Carlos Castillo.
