Meeting to be held to discuss ASB

The Quincy School District will hold a community meeting to provide information and respond to questions parents or community members may have regarding Quincy High School Associated Student Body finances.

The meeting on Tuesday, May 25, at 7 p.m. at the District Administration Building.

Earlier this month QHS principal David Talley announced that the fund, which several years ago contained over $50,000, is now empty.

QHS student gets scholarship

Matthew Benedict of Quincy has been awarded a presidential scholarship for $2,500 to Eastern Washington University for the 2010-2011 academic year.

This scholarship is awarded to high school students with a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.8 or higher or an SAT score of 1,250 or higher.

Benedict will graduate from Quincy High School this year. He will attend EWU in the fall, where he hopes to study exercise science.

Benedict is the son of Mike and Sheryl Benedict of Quincy.

BBCC students earn honors

More than 420 Big Bend Community College students were named to the President’s and Vice President’s Lists for academic honors earned during Winter Quarter 2010.

Students named to the President’s List earned a 3.75 to 4.00 GPA. Students named to the Vice President’s list earned a 3.33 to 3.74 GPA.

Winter Quarter ended March 16.

Quincy natives making the President’s List were Matthew Evens, Marty Field, Cristina Hernandez, Darline Lopez, Steven Lund, Carlos Madera, Eric Martin, Rolf Minton, Hannah Rowley, Christopher VanDyke and Jennifer Workinger.

Quincy natives making the Vice President’s List were Joie Chapman-Oswood, Amanda Ellis, Candace Fischer, Anna Hernandez, James Imholt, Michael Kooy, Luke Lankhaar, Juan Navarro, Rolando Padron, Liliveth Perez, Esaul Quintero, Cristian Ramon, Teres Rodriguez-Guzman and Jose Valle.

Vandelaarschot earns BBCC degree

Joshua Vandelaarschot of Quincy graduated from Big Bend Community College after the 2010 winter quarter.

Vandelaarschot graduated with an associate’s degree in arts and science.

UW students on Dean’s List

Three University of Washington students from the Quincy area were named to the Dean’s List for winter quarter.

Kimberly Goto, Michelle Tobin and Rafael Velazquez were honored.

To qualify for the Dean’s List, a student must have completed at least 12 graded credits and have a grade point average of at least 3.5.

Students inducted into honor society

More than 30 Big Bend Community College students were recently inducted into the Rho Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, a national honor society for two-year colleges.

To be invited to join, students must have earned a minimum of 12 credits with at least a 3.4 grade point average.

Hannah Rowley and Jennifer Workinger of Quincy were among the students to be inducted.

Slager graduates from Dordt College

Benjamin Slager of Quincy was among 287 Dordt College students awarded diplomas at the 2010 commencement ceremony held May 7 in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Slager, son of Paul and Jane Slager, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration, with an emphasis in marketing.

Huxtable honored at Seattle Pacific

Lauren Huxtable of Quincy was named to the Dean’s List for the 2010 winter quarter at Seattle Pacific University.

Students on the Dean’s List have completed at least 12 credits and attained a 3.5 or higher grade point average.

Camp Quest to be held in June

Camp Quest, a three-day summer day camp for middle school aged students, will be held June 28-30 at Big Bend Community College.

“The camp is targeting fun with math and science experiences,” said Allan Peterson, creator of the camp. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Lunch is provided. For more information, call the Center for Business and Industry Services at 793-2374 or visit webstarts.com/campquest.
