Senior News: May 13

If you visit the Senior Center this week, you will see significant changes in the kitchen. Our floor was tested for moisture content this weekend. This will indicate how much coating to use for those who are coming to level and coat the floor. The same crew will “roto-blast” the floor in preparation for the coating which will protect it from problems associated with concrete and moisture. After the coating is dry, the flooring installation crew will come in. They should be finished May 21. May 24, our equipment supplier, Bargreen-Ellingson, is slated to install the equipment, and by our reopening on June 3, we fully expect Precision Plumbing to have us ready to hit the skids running. Yahoo! Thanks, City crew, for the hard work you did moving all those appliances!!!

We have filled four spaces for Sue Anez’s CPR/First Aid, class on Friday, May 28. This class will include Red Cross certification, if you stay for the whole class and pass the test. Class size is limited to 10 people age 17 and up. More information, such as times, very reasonable fees, and content is available in our newsletter, available at community meals on Thursday. You can also call 787-3231 for information.

We have a couple of dates in June set apart for diabetes education. All the community is invited for these classes. The Quincy Community Health Clinic is bringing us a class June 10 at 4 p.m., on diabetes, its nature, care, and concerns. Bring your questions! Then on June 22 and 29, the Aging & Adult Care of Washington will present two classes on cooking for diabetics, including tasty samples of the food demonstrated. All classes are free of charge, but class size is limited for the cooking classes, so be sure to sign up!
