Spaghetti feed frenzy!
Monument reaches monetary goal

The first Friday of March, Quincy residents know where to go for dinner. They attend the annual Monument Elementary Spaghetti Feed that raises funds for the fourth-grade field trip to Seattle. “I have been coming here for 18 years, and I remember when my kids were serving the dinner,” said Melanie Lischka. Eva Gonzalez has attended the dinner for over 20 years, and remembers helping out when her children were young. “It first started out at Pioneer when they had fourth grade,” said Gonzalez.
As far as the eye could see, Quincy residents came out in force to support the students in their community. Just as their children earned money for the trip to the big city, they helped this generation have the same shared experience. Some kids have never even been to Seattle. As of last year, a ferry ride was included in the trip schedule.
“The ferry system charges school districts only $2 for the whole group if we walk on. It is a great experience and the kids love it,” said Monument Elementary principal Don Francis.

Fourth-grader Crizelda Munoz mentioned she was excited about going to the Woodland Park Zoo, the Science Center and the Seattle Aquarium. It was hard to tell, but judging from the three take-out spaghetti lines that were moving along all evening, the Monument kids probably made their goal of $17,000 for the trip.
“We were at about $16,000, and usually spaghetti night brings in about another $500 at least,” said Francis.
