Students art on display in Quincy’s new library
Cecillo Garza has lived in Quincy since 1965. He has enjoyed raising his family here.
The first exhibit in the Quincy Public Library’s new art space is from Quincy High School and Quincy Junior High School students.
Students in QHS’ Art 1 class created a show titled Local Landscapes under the direction of art teacher Lauren Kucera. The landscapes, done in watercolor and charcoal, depict scenes in Washington state, including the Quincy area.
Their work shows their studies of background, middle ground and foreground as well as the application and techniques for each material they used.

“(The students) focused on color and texture to create the rich variety of landscapes that span our beautiful state,” Kucera said.
The junior high contributed artwork illustrating how ancient humans used art to communicate, including cave paintings, hieroglyphics, pottery, mosaics and other media.
“We’ve been working our way through time,” said QJHS art teacher Lisa Silk.
