Support the spaghetti feed
This is the first year I have lived in Quincy where myself or my family have nothing to personally gain by supporting the annual Fourth-grade Spaghetti Feed.
As a kid growing up here, myself or my siblings were invested in the spaghetti feed’s success because we all wanted to make sure there was enough money for us to go on the awesome field trip.
When we moved back here five years ago, I had no problem supporting the spaghetti feed because I wanted to make sure my two youngest children would be able to go on the field trip (my eldest, much to her chagrin, missed the chance to go on the trip by one year).

But now my youngest is in fifth grade and there really isn’t a “selfish” reason to support the spaghetti feed.
However, I feel a tremendous obligation, or rather responsibility, to ensure that the spaghetti feed is a success for future generations of Quincy fourth-graders. My family and I have all greatly benefited from the experience of participating in the spaghetti feed and field trip and I want to make sure the tradition continues for another 35 years. I know I’m not alone in this thinking.
I believe the greatest thing about the spaghetti feed is that it teaches students that you should work hard and provide a good service if you want to receive a great reward.
Sure, it would be a lot easier if the fourth-graders all just went home and begged their parents and neighbors for the money they need for the trip, but it would certainly be not as rewarding as selling tickets for a good meal and then working to provide that meal for the community.
So, I’m happy to say that our family bought tickets from the first fourth-grader who approached us and we’re looking forward to having a great meal on Friday at Quincy High School and are happy that the money will be helping to pay for another group of Quincy Valley children to have the trip of their lives.
Hope to see you all there.
