Teen taking on responsibility
Raul Garcia Jr. works hard at Casa Jalisco, a local restaurant owned by his family.
Raul Garcia Jr. has been in Quincy for a short time, but already he has big plans for his future. As son of Raul Garcia, owner of Casa Jalisco Restaurant, he has been given more responsibility as of late. He has gone from waiting tables to managing the restaurant as well.
“My family has always been in the restaurant business,” said Garcia.
Garcia’s father worked for Torero’s restaurants in Renton and Auburn for 25 years. Raul Jr. moved several times with the family, following different jobs in the business.

“We moved from Renton to Auburn, then Washougal to Quincy. I have done everything in the kitchen. I started out washing dishes and cooking as well. I don’t cook that much, but I like to invent dishes,” said Garcia.
His favorite dish of all at Casa Jalisco is chicken chipoltle. Garcia and his sister, Naomi, share duties at the restaurant, taking turns working different days during the school year to create a balance between the family business and school.
Next year, Garcia will be starting as a sophomore at Quincy High School He plans to try out for the football team and play golf as well. As a typical teenager, he enjoys watching movies and playing video games during his down time. At school, his focus is more serious. Garcia enjoys the loaded subjects of history and political science. Eventually he sees his studies in the future preparing him for a career as a lawyer. He also is considering joining the armed forces after graduation.
“I would possibly like to join the Marines,” he said. Garcia played golf for Quincy High School last year, and enjoyed the summer months playing at the Crescent Bar golf course. He also looks forward to trying out for the football team.
