Thank you, Class of 1958

On behalf of the students of Quincy High School, I want to thank you, the Class of 1958, for your generous contribution of $1,082 to the QHS Haas Fund. As the QHS coordinator for the Saul & Dayee G. Haas Foundation fund, I see students in need of financial assistance every day. The Haas Fund allows me to help these students stay focused on education and to participate in school and community learning activities. As costs go up for activities associated with education, the cost to the student and family can put many activities out of reach. With your donation, you have helped me reach more than 40 students I would not have been able to otherwise help.

This year, we have already supported 58 different students with expenses that allow them to stay connected to the learning community. PE uniforms, ASB cards, sports insurance and athletic uniforms are the most common uses of our Haas money this year. Imagine a family with 2-3 students in high school who want to join a club or sport. Today the cost of an ASB card is $30 per student, sports insurance is $29, and then there is the cost of physicals, shoes and other personal uniform parts. The costs add up, and many students would not be able to participate in these activities without your help, and the help of others like you.

There is a useful “catch” to this support. Students who can now afford to participate in sports or clubs are realizing their dream, but they must keep their grades up to be able to continue participating. It becomes a win-win situation for the student – they get to play and they stay more focused on their education.

So you don’t worry that your money ends up in the wrong place, Haas fund money is never given to the student. It is used to make purchases, pay fees and cover expenses through checks paid directly to the business involved. This keeps temptation at bay, and helps keep donors like you comfortable with the knowledge that your gift is properly used.

Thank you again for your very generous gift to the QHS Haas Fund and the students of Quincy High School. Rest assured it will be used to help students stay connected with their education – encouraging them to reach their dreams and goals.
