We should support our new president
Those who know me would say I lean a “little” to the right of centrist.
I did not vote for Barack Obama. After election-day when Sen. Obama became President-elect Obama, I had to reassess my views. I needed to change some paradigms. Obama became president, Christine Gregoire remains governor and Democrats control the Congress. I decided I can be freaked for the next four years, or I can put it all in perspective.
I watch Fox News Channel every morning, O’Reilly Factor at night, Hannity and Combs when the family lets me. I listen to Rush Limbaugh when I can. News on NBC, CBS and ABC is too biased and my TV dial won’t go that far left. I’m disgusted with Hollywood and their left-wing-holier-than-thou liberal drivel.

I have witnessed some history in my 46 years to include some historic presidencies.
I was born in the Kennedy presidency, the youngest president ever elected. Later, Nixon was the first to resign the presidency under threat of impeachment. Geraldine Ferraro was the first woman to run for a high office. I saw Bush 41 and Bush 43, only the second father-son presidents. Now, I am witnessing history again: the first black president. I am blessed to see these events. I’ll tell these stories to my grandchildren.
At my core is a deep sense of duty and service. Mr. Barack Obama will be the president. I could hope and pray that he falters and fails as president. But if the president fails, my country fails. Because of my sense of duty and country, I cannot hope for my country to fail. This is the country my forefathers fought to give me. Therefore, I must hope that President Obama succeeds and leads this country forward and that we, as Americans, prosper.
I am an American. As such I will remain vigilant. I may not agree with all President Obama does or says, but then I didn’t blindly agree with President Bush, either.
Ultimately, it is all about America. I believe America and Americans are best served through self-reliance and not reliance on government programs.
Bill O’Reilly, of Fox News, spoke on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the government’s slow response to help.
O’Reilly said, “The aftermath of Katrina should be taught in school. If you don’t get educated, if you don’t develop a skill, and force yourself to work hard, you’ll most likely be poor. And sooner or later you’ll be standing on a symbolic rooftop waiting for help. Chances are help won’t be quick in coming.”
I would say that is a sound ideology.
As an American, I pledge to support my country and my president—Barack Obama—to the best of my ability as we all should. We should all pray for God’s guidance as always.
Abraham Lincoln once said, “Let us not pray that God is on our side in a war or any other time, but let us pray that we are on God’s side.”
I think that’s a more secure position than reliance on who is president.
What will your choice be for the next four years? What will be your prayers? Our country still needs us. Our neighbors still need us. Our troops still need our support regardless of who sits in the Oval Office. As for me, I’ve been here through 10 presidents in 46 years. I’m still here. America is still here. But most of those presidents are no longer here.
That’s just my opinion, I could be wrong.
