The fall sports season is quickly coming to an end.

The Quincy High School football team will take on East Valley tonight in its second-to-last game of the season. The Jackrabbits' volleyball and girls soccer teams ended their respective campaigns this week, and the cross country team will participate in this weekend's district championships at The Gorge Amphitheatre.

Every team displayed small but significant signs of progress that they can build on for next year. It goes without saying that this fall season treated the Jackrabbits' athletic program better than the fall 2008 season did, when the football, soccer and volleyball teams combined for just two wins.

The picks

1. Quincy over East Valley. The Red Devils have one of the conference's top coaches and even in a down year should be respected as a team that can win. The Red Devils might be the best of the conference's lower tier.

2. Auburn over Mississippi.

3. Nebraska over Baylor.

4. Cal over Arizona State.

5. Florida over Georgia.

6. TCU over UNLV.

7. Oregon State over UCLA.

8. Penn State over Northwestern.

9. Notre Dame over Washington State.

10. Tennessee over South Carolina.

11. Texas over Oklahoma State.

12. USC over Oregon.

13. Utah over Wyoming.

14. Cowboys over Seahawks.

15. Lions over Rams.

16. Ravens over Broncos.

17. Colts over 49ers.

18. Jets over Dolphins.

19. Giants over Eagles.

20. Packers over Vikings.
