Tax incentives bring value

March 24, 2011 - In the face of our rising budget deficit, Gov. Gregoire is calling on state agencies to become more streamlined and innovative. At the same time, some interest groups are scrambling to increase tax revenues. But raising taxes is difficult, because the voter-approved I-1053 requires a two-thirds vote to increase taxes. Consequently, some legislators are once again targeting so-called “tax loopholes.”

June 12, 2008 - A graduation ceremony is just that: a ceremony. It isn't a party or sporting event, even if it is in a stadium. Poor manners caused this year's ceremony to be less enjoyable for many.

Do the right thing — save the Quincy Senior Center

June 05, 2008 - Our community has done much to invest in our youth. We have recently passed a school levy that will ensure our students receive the educational resources they need for a well-rounded education. Our city is making a significant investment in its parks, with upgrades to playground equipment used primarily by youngsters.

May 22, 2008 - Memorial Day weekend will be a time of fun and play for many of us. That is right and good. But we should also take a few minutes to remember those who have made our freedom and prosperity possible. There is no better place and time to do this then Monday at the Quincy Valley Cemetery during the annual Memorial Day ceremony at 12:30 p.m. The ceremony gives us a chance to stand together and show our gratitude for our servicemen and women who have passed on from this life.
