Why Doc voted no
Oct. 09, 2008 - The House of Representatives on Friday, Oct. 3 approved a $700 billion economic bailout plan. The final vote was 263 to 171. Congressman Doc Hastings voted against the bill.
For Long
Oct. 09, 2008 - Confused about where the PUD commissioner candidates stand on the issues? It’s not surprising, since some candidates’ election rhetoric doesn’t always match their record. I know exactly where Don Long stands on the issues, though, and know that he is an honest, highly ethical man who will be an exceptional PUD commissioner.
Support for Flint
Oct. 09, 2008 - For the sake of full disclosure, my name is Robbie Robertson and I am a PUD Commissioner in Skagit County, WA. I am also the current Secretary/Treasurer for the Washington State Public Utilities Association; representing 27 individual PUD’s throughout the state, of which Grant County is a long time member. I also need to disclose that this letter is of my own volition and I have not been asked by any person in Grant County or elsewhere to write it.
Regarding bailout
Oct. 02, 2008 - I complement Mr. Allen’s thoughtful editorial on the financial bailout. I agree with most of the points made, however it was incomplete on at least a couple of items. The editorial did not address in any depth why we got into this mess. It is impossible to keep a fair market economy with complete laissez-faire capitalism. We must have some restraints and regulations or greed will get us into trouble every time. This rush to deregulation got out of control during the administration of Ron Reagan. The GOP with the help of some blue dog Democrats pushed deregulation and we got the S&L bailout. The present Bush administration has not only pushed deregulation to the extreme, but has gone further and not enforced regulation laws that are on the books. We need a moderate middle-of-the-road position between some regulation of markets and some limited socialism.

For Allred
Sept. 25, 2008 - Election years bring hours and hours of commentary regarding the political positions of various candidates. Countless nuances are noted and all of us voters must navigate through the waves of information to make informed choices. I find it refreshing, however, when I know a candidate personally and I can rely on firsthand experience to evaluate them.
