Nov. 10, 2011 - Quincy’s longtime resident Rosalie Flint has the special distinction of turning 80 on 11/11/11. She was born to James and Viola Matthews on Nov. 11, 1931 in Coos County, Oregon, about 30 miles from the ocean.
Making a happy home in Quincy
Oct. 27, 2011 - During the course of her young life, Yolanda Solano has been many places. She was born in Paul’s Valley, Okla., and moved to Chicago with her father at the age of 5. As the only girl, she admits to being spoiled, as she was a “daddy’s girl.” She attended St. Charles East High School an hour and a half outside of Chicago up to her senior year.
Feeling connected in Quincy
Oct. 20, 2011 - Gayla Petersen was born Gayla Whiting, to Roy Whiting and Donna Flynn. She grew up in Quincy, raised by her stepfather and mother, Eldon and Donna Flynn. She had two brothers and one sister. She was between them in order of age. “I was the proverbial middle child,” said Petersen. Her stepfather owned the Chevrolet Garage and licensing office on F Street in Quincy for years, until they moved to their current location at 908 Central Ave. S. Petersen spent most of her time working alongside her stepfather after the move, and eventually took over the business. This is her 20th year at Petersen Licensing.

Oct. 13, 2011 - Crystal (Vargas) Pedregon was born to Maria and Francisco Vargas, who came to Quincy long ago to find work in the area. She joined her older brother, Francisco, and sister, Jessica, as the youngest of their three children. She went to Quincy High School and was active in sports.
Living a full life in Quincy
Oct. 06, 2011 - Don and Marge Wilson have finally settled into an easygoing lifestyle at The Cambridge assisted living facility in Quincy. The couple, married since 1946, has endured the knocks and pings of life that have come along over their 65 years together, and they are still smiling. Don grew up in Deming, N.M. before moving with his family to the Okanagan area, where he eventually met his future wife Marge (Harris) at school. She had to walk a mile and a half to school, while he had a horse he used to ride in on. “I used to give rides to her brothers,” Don said.
Living the Crescent Bar dream
Sept. 29, 2011 - On an average day, you can find Jon (pronounced “yone”) Bergman climbing the hill of Crescent Bar for exercise, which is impressive considering his 70-plus years of age. “Most people know me as “Bergie. They always see me walking the hill,” he said.
Teaching and living in Quincy
Sept. 22, 2011 - Mary Alice Berndt began her childhood in Indianapolis, Ind. and lived there until the age of 10. Her father followed a job to Baton Rouge, La., and she remained there until her senior year in high school. Later on, Berndt attended Louisiana Tech, where she majored in vocal music. She then transferred to Concordia Lutheran College in Milwaukee, Wis., where her aunt and grandparents lived.
