Senior News: May 13

May 13, 2010 - If you visit the Senior Center this week, you will see significant changes in the kitchen. Our floor was tested for moisture content this weekend. This will indicate how much coating to use for those who are coming to level and coat the floor. The same crew will “roto-blast” the floor in preparation for the coating which will protect it from problems associated with concrete and moisture. After the coating is dry, the flooring installation crew will come in. They should be finished May 21. May 24, our equipment supplier, Bargreen-Ellingson, is slated to install the equipment, and by our reopening on June 3, we fully expect Precision Plumbing to have us ready to hit the skids running. Yahoo! Thanks, City crew, for the hard work you did moving all those appliances!!!

Senior News: April 29

April 29, 2010 - I ARRIVED AT WORK Monday morning to a disturbing sight. Our Senior Center building was broken into over the weekend. I calmly called 911. Then I called our board president. A call to the City came next, as our building actually belongs to the City. I subsequently waited for the process of investigation so we could clean up and resume operations. A search revealed that only one item was stolen, yet some things were destroyed in the process.

Senior News: April 15

April 15, 2010 - A candy bar goes to the first one to report the City’s request for bid (regarding our kitchen remodel) in the paper! On the progress side, I am happy to announce that Precision Plumbing, who did our restroom plumbing, is starting work by Friday. This will take us a step closer to the goal. We are paying the plumber, so that we don’t have to wait on the City contract bid process to get things rolling. This way the concrete can be poured and hardened to accept the new floor covering.

Senior News: April 8

April 08, 2010 - Last week was lonely at the Community Center dinner; only a handful of people were there to eat dinner and play games. We hope to see more of you this week and encourage you to continue to support us in this important way. It is because of you we are able to keep going financially and otherwise.

Senior News: April 1

April 01, 2010 - We are very happy being able to continue our meals on Thursday at the Community Center. I know we are all very anxious to get back to our comfortable home and use silverware instead of plastic utensils, but please keep in mind that for every week we are blessed to be at the Community Center, we are one week closer to getting home. Your attendance and support during these past weeks has been wonderful and we look forward to your continuing support in the coming weeks.

Senior News: March 25

March 25, 2010 - We owe a big ‘thank you’ to the Quincy Community Center, which is making it possible for our Thursday meals to continue while our kitchen is under reconstruction. We have our new fixtures arriving and we are waiting with baited breath for a remodel bid to be approved. This could take another four weeks.
