I am concerned about the new sex ed law, from HB 5395. This was passed by state government at the onset of the quarantine. I haven’t heard information about the law from a school district source. What I have read about the law itself, read about pilot districts, and read from those in and around state government officials, has not been positive!

Now state government will decide where revisions to the 2005 curricular guidelines should be made, leading to curriculum that is more medically accurate and more comprehensive. Pilot school districts have used this flexibility to, basically, use pornography during class. More than one source specifies such types of tools and disturbing practices.

This is a red flag as a parent and a community member! I want to raise my children in a respectful community. This can be a demoralizing and addictive practice if not used with discipline and with certain discretion. I feel that more children could be tempted through the instruction.

I am glad that abstinence will be taught and that parents can opt-out, but the effects will still surround us. Children in third and fourth grade will be taught similarly. Government will decide on which behaviors are deemed responsible, self-control methods. Parents and individual school districts, who know the needs of our children, should be the ones to decide! Referendum 90 will put the decisions back into our hands, not politicians. We should decide what is appropriate or not appropriate!

Let your voice be heard. Please use the power that we the people are provided. Let’s sign this petition to repeal the new sex ed law by signing and helping others to know where they can sign. There is only a week and a half to collect 129,000 more Referendum 90 signatures. Please use the power that we the people are provided. Let’s sign this petition to repeal the new sex ed law by signing and helping others to know where they can sign. Reaching this amount will mean that the law will be on the November ballot.

Unfortunately, during this quarantine, gathering signatures is difficult. I and a couple others, will try to make it easier. A tail-gate petition signing will be held May 22 and May 29 in the parking lot at the Ephrata Wal-Mart. From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., please look for signs or decorated cars! We will practice social distancing while assisting you in making a difference for our children and communities! If these times do not work with your schedule, please contact me at Res90wa@gmail.com, to make arrangements.
