The First Friday Jam in George was slated for Oct. 2, and later cancelled the day of the event.

On Sept. 29, a news release from Debby Kooy, Event Director for George Community Hall announced the First Friday Jam would be happening again on the first Friday of October after all events had been cancelled due to COVID-19 related restrictions to group gatherings by the health department.

The news release stated that the George Community Hall Board requested that all attendees sign a waiver that outlined rules for the event and personal liability of social distancing as well as group sizes of five people or less.

On Oct. 2, the day of the event, a notice was sent out that the event was cancelled.

“We’re so sorry to dash your hopes, but we are letting you know that tonight’s First Friday Jam is canceled,” the announcement stated. “Stay tuned and keep on practicing, though, because we are going to reboot our events just as soon as we can.”

The cancellation was cited as a choice to “err on the side of caution.” the notice said.
