The fourteenth annual George Bluegrass Festival has been cancelled, among other events.
The City of George notified George Community Hall that their events are bound by regulations of the Grant County Health District and the state of Washington, which are currently not allowing live music or events for more than five people, said Debby Kooy, Event Director for George Community Hall.
This also means that the Jams and Coffee House Concerts that George Community Hall puts on are not able to continue for the foreseeable future.
Major events have to submit an event application with the city, and since the festival had been previously approved, the George City Council nullified the application at its Aug. 20 meeting.
“We were going to do all sorts of things to make sure it was sanitised and that social distancing was possible outside, but it wasn’t going to work as far as the health department was concerned,” Kooy said.
Kooy mentioned the disappointment she has heard from regular attendees once they were notified of the cancellation.
The 2021 Bluegrass festival is scheduled for Sept. 13-19.
