The Grant County unemployment rate is declining over the last four months but still remains above 7%, according to data from the Grant County Labor Area Summary for March 2021.
The unemployment rate came in at 7.1% for March 2021, the lowest percentage since October 2020 at 5.8%. Compared to last year, unemployment has decline from 7.7% in 2020 and 9.2% in 2019. Unemployment peaked in the county in April 2020 at 13.1%.
If this year follows 2019 trends, unemployment rates should continue to decline in combination with more people getting vaccinated and returning to work.
Grant County’s economy lost 460 jobs in 2020, just a 1.5% downturn. Grant County’s loss is less severe than the state as a whole, which lost 5.3% of jobs during 2020.
