Local farmer Mark Kallstrom has won a new Case IH 35 C compact tractor courtesy of Central Machinery.

The Washington-based agriculture and construction equipment dealer decided to give away the new tractor to a customer this year because of pandemic restrictions on large gatherings. Normally, Central Machinery hosts customer barbeque lunches at each of their five locations, four of which are in Washington, along with a single store in Oregon, said General Manager Carl Carbon. The company has hosted the lunches for at least 30 years, he added.

“The year that we had, we had to figure out something different,” Carbon said.

The new tractor was the top prize, and worth $20,000, Carbon said. Other smaller prizes were also given away to other customers.

Kallstrom and his family sell sweet corn from their farm each fall. The produce is very popular locally and is sold at multiple truck stands around the county.

“He was so excited,” Carbon said of Kallstrom. “He’d never won anything like that.”
