Children and adults enjoy the cool water on June 18 when the pool opened for the first time this year.

The Quincy Aquatic Center opened for the season on June 18. This is the first time it has been open since the summer of 2019 because COVID-19 prevented them from opening for the summer 2020 season.

“We’re happy to be back open,” Recreation Director Russ Harrington said.

On the center’s opening day, families could be seen relaxing along the edges of the pool, children splashing in the water or going down the water slide. The pool was a perfect getaway from the heat; it got above 85 degrees that day.

According to the Quincy Recreation Facebook Page, community members need a reservation for all swims for the time being. They are also only family swim times; unattended minors are not allowed. They currently can host 60 people per swim session but that is subject to change depending on guidance from the Washington State Department of Health, Harrington said.

The Aquatic Center is happy to provide swimming lessons to the community and Harrington mentioned that swimming lessons are filling up fast.

Harrington also said that the Aquatic Center hopes to offer a swim club this summer that will work on building skills for kids hoping to participate on swim teams. The club will be for kids ages 5-19 and more details will be announced soon.

The Aquatic Center’s swim schedule through July 4 is also posted on their Facebook Page.
